We are looking for a Junior Java Developer to join the Shipping Technology team. The platform you’ll help build and maintain is used by enterprises worldwide to optimize and automate their shipping operations. You’ll gain practical experience with modern development practices, cloud infrastructure, and backend systems, all while being supported by a lead developer who is passionate about coaching junior talent.

The Dutch team of 4 developers works closely with colleagues in Canada and the United States. The team operates in 2-week sprints and release updates every 6 weeks. The team is continuously refining its ways of working, experimenting with new techniques, and exploring technologies like AI and Machine Learning, while juniors are encouraged to learn, contribute, and grow into more responsibility over time

Responsibilities:

  • Build and support backend features using Java (Spring Boot) and related tools.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code.
  • Assist in improving existing systems and fixing software issues.
  • Participate in code reviews and learn from experienced developers.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of international engineers and stakeholders.
  • Engage in sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.

Tech Stack You’ll Be Working With:

  • Java (Spring Boot).
  • TypeScript (Node.js).
  • RabbitMQ, Redis.
  • PostgreSQL.
  • AWS Services.
  • Docker & Kubernetes (K8s).
  • Bitbucket & JIRA.

Functie eisen

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • At least 1 year of programming experience (internships or projects included).
  • Basic proficiency in Java and understanding of Spring Boot.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and REST API concepts.
  • Interest in cloud technologies like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Curious mindset and eagerness to learn.
  • Residing in the Netherlands with legal eligibility to work in the EU.

  • Starting market-based salary depending on experience (typically €39k – €59k per year) with opportunities to grow in both salary and responsibility over time.
  • Full-time one-year contract under Dutch law with the intention to convert to a permanent contract upon good performance, including 30% ruling support if applicable.
  • Fully remote position – live and work anywhere in the Netherlands.
  • Flexible working hours and a collaborative work environment.
  • 20 vacation days plus Dutch national holidays.
